Researchers at the City University of New York and Rutgers University have developed a novel procedure enabling early detection and identification of downy mildew in basil. This simple method, which does not require expensive equipment, is described in the July issue of Applications in Plant Sciences. The authors expect that this protocol will aid the detection of other pathogenic organisms that cause disease outbreaks in other economically important plants.
